When it comes to choosing a community college, the quality of faculty, learning and teaching resources, availability of articulated agreements and the intended major are key considerations. For instance, an international student who finds the admission requirements of a top university such as the UC Berkeley or MIT too stringent to meet may choose a well-resourced community, take advantage of available support systems and study very hard and acquire excellent grades. With a good GPA, such a student may now be able to transfer into these top universities which he couldn’t have without a community college. In spite of all its attractive benefits, the 2+2 Community College pathway may not be ideal for everyone. Students who envisage careers in some specialized professions (depending on the strength of their academic credentials) may achieve their dreams more quickly through direct enrollment into universities.
