Completion of a US Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent is a necessary condition for admission into a graduate program in the US. Many graduate schools do not recognize three-year Bachelor’s degree as equivalent to the American Bachelor’s degree. This leaves many francophone West Africans with two main options. Either transfer credits earned in the French system during the “Licence” into American system through a course by course evaluation of credentials by a NACES member. This may call for additional undergraduate credits to be earned in the chosen US university towards US Bachelor’s degree and subsequently Master’s degree. Alternatively, applicants may continue their education to Maitrise or Master’s (Bac +4 or Bac + 5) level in their home country before applying to Master’s program in the USA.
