Colleges and universities are the two main post-secondary institutions invested with the mandate to award degrees in Canada. Universities are degree-granting institutions where students study towards the award of Bachelors, Master’s or Doctoral degrees in addition to non-degree programs like graduate certificates, diplomas and other short courses for continuing education. Though some colleges also offer Bachelor’s degree programs, the main focus of Canadian Colleges is vocational and entry level skill training – usually for 1, 2 or 3 years. Colleges focus more on undergraduate study while universities provide both undergraduate and graduate study.
