Musical Theatre (Bachelor of Fine Arts)

       Requirements

Western Illinois University, dedicated to diversity and the fine arts, has designated four scholarships to attract international string students that cover full tuition along with a stipend to assist with fees and housing. These four musicians – two violinists, one violist and one cellist – form the WIU President’s International String Quartet. The quartet is seeking a violinist and a violist to join in Fall of 2019. Application deadline: February 18, 2019 The quartet is seeking a cellist for Fall of 2020. Application deadline: February 17, 2020

Candidates will need the following to apply:

A completed high school degree or equivalent

 One video of the candidate performing two contrasting works

 School of Music application and admission information

 Three letters of recommendation, including information on the applicant’s academic, musical and sight-reading abilities

 A completed international student admission application form

 Required English proficiency test scores: IBT TOEFL 79 or paper TOEFL 550 or IELTS 6.5

Requirements

Background: Please Note: The admissions office will invite students to attend the interview process on Shark Preview Weekends. Once selected for the award, the student must confirm acceptance and accept the President’s Scholarship award by May 1st in order to guarantee the funds. NSU will cover up to full cost of tuition based on the students award package for the academic year and includes all institutional scholarships and federal/state scholarships and grants.

Requirements:

  • First-time in college freshman enrolled at NSU in the fall semester
  • Awards are limited
  • Full-time enrollment in an Undergraduate traditional or non-traditional degree seeking program
  • Undergraduate Nursing Program at NSU’s Main Campus in Ft. Lauderdale, FL
  • Complete the NSU State-Aid application (if in-state student) and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to April 15th
  • Students in Dual Admission programs lose their eligibility when they progress to the professional/graduate portion/tuition of their program
  • Enrolled in at least 12 credits(9 credits for nursing) by the end of drop/add for the semester
  • Submit: an Application for Admission, Secondary School/Post-Secondary Credentials, Proof of English Language Proficiency ( TOEFL 79 or IELTS 6.0)
  • Complete the School Report (Common Application only)
  • One letter of recommendation from a teacher is required, but you may submit up to a total of three letters
  • If selected for the exclusive President’s Premier Scholarship, double room/board is included

Additional Information

 Renewal: STRICTLY ENFORCED- Yes; maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at the end of the academic year (fall and winter semesters), maintain full-time enrollment by completing 12 credit hours in the fall semester and 12 credit hours in the winter semester. Student must be enrolled in at least 12 credits(9 credits for nursing)by the end of drop/add for the semester, which is the first eight weeks of both fall and winter terms. Renewable for four years or degree completion, whichever comes first. Students will lose eligibility for this award once they are charged tuition at the graduate level

  • Complete the undergraduate online application.
  • An Essay of 250-500 words
  • Two Letters of Recommendation (from a Guidance Counselor and a Teacher)
  • Final Secondary School Transcripts evaluated by any NACES member agency. Members can be found at: www.naces.org/members.htm.
  • Standardized Test Scores (SAT or ACT scores): In order to be eligible for the scholarship, students must submit SAT ( minimum of  1270) or ACT scores. More information about these exams can be found at:  www.collegeboard.com or www.actsudent.org.
  • Proof of English Proficiency: Students must submit TOEFL scores (minimum of 70), IELTS scores (minimum of 6.0) or ELS Level 112 Certificate of Completion. More information about these exams can be found at: www.ets.org/toefl and www.ielts.org. English language requirement may be waived at the discretion of the Office of Admissions for students whose language of instruction was English or for those with the satisfactory SAT/ACT scores.

International students can be considered for both merit and need-based awards.  Funding is awarded as the “Wooster International Scholarship” and ranges from $5,000 to full tuition, based on both merit and financial need.   The Wooster International Scholarship is renewable annually for each year the student is in good standing at the College (there is no minimum GPA for renewal).

Both first-year and transfer international students are automatically considered for competitive, merit-based scholarships.  Merit scholarships range from $5,000/year to $30,000/year and are based on academic talent, contributions to the high school and local community, personal essay, and recommendation letters.

  • Transcripts

    • You may submit unofficial transcripts through the electronic application process; however, official transcripts will be required upon admission for enrolling students. Please submit transcripts for all prior academic work from any institution of higher education.
  • Test Scores

    • The GRE is not required, but you have the option of submitting a GRE or other test scores (e.g., GMAT or LSAT) as supplemental material.
    • Scores from either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) are required for international students.
      • The Harris institution codes for the TOEFL are 1849 or 1832.(Both codes will be accepted.)
      • You should make your reservations to take the TOEFL or IELTS directly.
  • Work Experience

    • Please include current and prior positions, preferably demonstrating 3–5 years or more of work experience, the nature of your job, and responsibilities. You may upload a current resume reflecting this information along with your education, community service, professional honors, and any other relevant information.
  • 3 ­ Letters of Recommendation

    • We prefer to have at least one reference from a previous professor who can speak to your academic background and preparedness for graduate studies.
    • Those making a recommendation should submit letters through the electronic application—hard copy letters will be accepted but are not preferred. (Your references will receive an email requesting a recommendation.)
  • Motivation Statement

    • Prepare a brief and well-articulated response to a prompted question regarding your motivation to pursue graduate studies in public policy (300 words).
  • 2 Short Essay Responses

    • Tell us about your current work (which may be your paid employment or your significant volunteer activity). In answering, please describe the concrete impact – however you define impact – your current work is having. Why have you chosen this work? What are the challenges you have faced in this work and how have you sought to overcome them? (400 words or fewer)
    • What impact do you want to have on the world? How would becoming an Obama Foundation Scholar help you achieve this? What do you plan to do after the Obama Foundation Scholars Program? What will you do if you are not selected? (300 words or fewer)

REQUIREMENTS

Criteria for selection:

  • Must be admissible to WMU.
  • Complete high school or post-secondary education transcripts*
  • TOEFL (61 iBT undergraduate, 80 iBT graduate) or IELTS (6.0 undergraduate, 6.5 graduate)
  • Undergraduate degree-seeking student, entering WMU for the first time. Students must enroll immediately after secondary school or transfer from another university.
  • Cumulative GPA of  4.0

Criteria for renewal:

  • Maintain a cumulative WMU GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Continue to enroll at WMU as a full-time student (minimum 12 credits each semester). Students who are in their last semester of studies and taking less than 12 credits are eligible for renewal by providing proof of approved reduced course load (RCL).
  • Successfully complete a minimum of 24 credit hours each academic year.
  • Remain a non-Michigan resident and international student.
  • Renewable up to eight consecutive semesters.
