As opposed to undergraduate studies which is liberal, graduate studies focuses on providing specialized education on an academic discipline in the Arts and Sciences or in professional fields such as nursing, medicine, law Engineering and so on. Graduate Certificates take a year or less of full time studies to complete and it is geared towards providing professional trainings for specific jobs. A unique feature of Master’s and Doctoral studies is the opportunity for students to contribute to the existing body of knowledge through research projects. A Master’s degree program may take a year or two of full time study to complete. A doctoral program may take 3 or more years of full time study to complete.
